Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman has urged India to increase imports from Bangladesh and called for greater Indian investment in the country’s technology-driven, manufacturing and industrial sectors during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi today (22 September).
Trivedi paid a courtesy call on the governor at Bangladesh Bank’s head office, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic, commercial and financial relations.
The governor called on India to further increase imports from Bangladesh with the aim of improving the country’s trade balance.
He also expressed interest in expanding the use of Bangla QR and cross-border digital payments, as well as exploring India’s experience and potential technical cooperation in these areas.
The Indian high commissioner emphasised the need for further simplification of foreign investment procedures.
In response, the governor said Bangladesh Bank had already taken multiple investment-friendly policy initiatives, allowing foreign investors to repatriate their invested capital and profits to their home countries easily.
He also called for greater Indian investment in Bangladesh’s technology-driven, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
Deputy High Commissioner Pawankumar Badhe and Second Secretary (Economic & Commerce) Gourab Kumar Agarwal were present alongside the Indian high commissioner.
Deputy Governors Md Habibur Rahman and Md Sarwar Hossain represented Bangladesh Bank at the meeting.
