Rajuk plans to approve building plans within 24 days: Housing minister

The government is taking steps to ensure that building plans submitted to the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) are approved within 24 days, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon said today (22 September).

“Rajuk is a part of this government, and the Narayanganj Development Authority is also a part of the government. Whatever is good for the people will be done,” he told journalists after inaugurating the office of the Narayanganj Development Authority (NDA) in Narayanganj this afternoon.

The minister said the government also plans to prepare a separate master plan for Narayanganj alongside Rajuk’s existing master plan.

The government is reviewing whether the jurisdiction of the NDA should be expanded, he said, adding that the inclusion of Fatullah and surrounding areas is being considered.

“The main objective of establishing the Narayanganj Development Authority is to provide better services to the people of Narayanganj and build a planned city,” he said.

Asked about allegations of corruption and harassment in Rajuk’s services, Zakaria Taher Sumon said the authority previously had insufficient manpower compared with the size of the area under its jurisdiction.

He said the government established development authorities in Gazipur and Narayanganj to make urban development services more accessible to residents.

The minister said the government is working to improve service delivery and reduce delays in approving building plans.
