Lana Del Rey’s former fiance has admitted it “stings” that the singer is now married to someone else.
The 40-year-old singer tied the knot with Jeremy Dufrene in September 2024 after less than a year of dating and Clayton Johnson got engaged to back in December 2020 before they split several months later.
Clayton is pleased the Summertime Sadness hitmaker has found happiness with the alligator tour guide, however, he did admit it is still painful to see she has moved on.
Lana’s ex, who is still on his search for love on the most recent series of US dating show The Bachelorette, which was cancelled amid star Taylor Frankie Paul’s involvement in a domestic abuse investigation, said on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, “Obviously, she’s married now. And I think that when you love somebody, and it comes from a pure place, and she’s somebody that I loved and I love, for her to find her person and for her to be as happy as she is, like she is glowing, nothing could make me happier for her.”
“It might sting a little bit, to be honest with you, but if you really love somebody in the purest form, how could you be upset at that?” he added.
Singer-songwriter Clayton doesn’t intend to share “any crazy details” about his ex, or their romance, he insisted he has “nothing but amazing things to say about” Lana.
He also revealed that they had initially “met in passing” at church, and later “reconnected” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clayton recalled, “I was traveling back and forth to Nashville at the time between LA, and we just really connected over what we wanted our futures to look like, old country music, and, yeah, what our futures look like to us.”
Lana Del Rey has remained largely quiet about her marriage to Jeremy, but did say in interview with Vogue Italia prior to their wedding that their relationship is different from ones she’s had previously.
She said, “When I get married, it’ll be to someone who, like me, believes that love is enough. I’ll be enough for him, and he’ll be enough for me. Someone to have children with if that happens, or just friends.”
