For the first time in Bangladesh, Chittagong Independent University (CIU) has officially launched a dedicated ‘Case Writing Centre’ to institutionalise case-based teaching and research in higher education.
The center was inaugurated yesterday (30 April) at the university’s Jamal Khan campus in Chattogram, reads a press release.
BSRM Managing Director Aameir Alihussain attended the event as chief guest. The event featured welcome remarks from CIU Business School Dean Professor Dr Syed Manjur Quader, while the centre’s acting director Iffat Ishrat Khan and HSBC Head of Chattogram Banking Omar Sharif also spoke.
Special guests joining virtually included former North American Case Research Association president and University of San Francisco Associate Dean Dr Michael Goldman, along with UK-based The Case Centre CEO Vicky Lester.
CIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr MM Nurul Absar presided over the programme and delivered the closing remarks.
Officials said the centre, established in collaboration with The Case Centre, UK, will develop internationally standardised teaching cases tailored to local realities. These cases will reflect real-world business situations, challenges, and decision-making processes.
They expressed hope that the initiative will strengthen students’ practical knowledge, analytical capabilities, and problem-solving skills, while bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application.
The university also expects the case studies, developed within the context of emerging economies, to become valuable educational resources for students and researchers worldwide.
