The BNP has announced programmes spanning eight days to mark the 45th death anniversary of party founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.
The programmes will be observed from 25 May to 1 June.
The announcement came at a joint meeting held at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan at 11am today (18 May), chaired by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The meeting was attended by the party’s joint secretary generals, conveners and member secretaries of the Dhaka North and South BNP units, as well as presidents, conveners, general secretaries and member secretaries of affiliated and associate bodies.
According to the decisions taken at the meeting, the programmes will include the publication of posters and the wearing of black badges, special supplements in newspapers and online portals, and discussion meetings organised by the BNP’s affiliated bodies.
On the day of the death anniversary, 30 May, the party will hoist black flags and keep party flags at half-mast at its Naya Paltan central office from 6am.
Later that day, at 11am, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to lead party leaders and activists in paying tribute at Ziaur Rahman’s grave and joining a prayer gathering organised by the Jatiotabadi Ulama Dal.
The party will also distribute clothes, rice, lentils and other food items among underprivileged people in every police station area under the Dhaka North and South BNP units.
On 31 May at 2pm, the BNP will hold a discussion meeting at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium in Ramna.
Similar programmes, including discussions, prayer gatherings and relief distribution, will also be held across the country by the BNP’s district, metropolitan and local units.
