BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today (18 May) said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to implement the promises made during the election, but political opponents are attempting to “divert and distort” the issue through various remarks.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s central office in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan, Rizvi said, “However, they failed to shake the growing sense of hope and public confidence surrounding Tarique Rahman.”
Rizvi said Tarique had pledged to introduce the Family Card and Farmer’s Card programmes. “These initiatives received a strong response across Bangladesh,” he added.
He further stated that following in the footsteps of his father, Tarique, has taken steps to make the country self-sufficient in food production once again.
Rizvi also said a nationwide canal excavation programme has been relaunched and already generated widespread public interest.
“Wherever he goes, he is continuing the canal excavation programme in full swing,” he added.
The BNP also announced an eight-day programme marking the death anniversary of the party’s founder, late president Ziaur Rahman. The programme will run from 25 May to 1 June.
