An SRB-7 warrant officer was killed after being hit by a truck at a checkpoint set up as part of an anti-narcotics operation on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway early today (4 October).
The deceased, Muhammad Alamgir (Army), was serving as a warrant officer at SRB-7’s Feni camp. He was the father of five.
The accident occurred around 12:30am, near the west side of Star Line Fuel Pump in Fatehpur area under Feni Sadar police station, SRB-7 said in a press release sent to the media this morning.
According to the press release, an SRB-7 team from the Feni camp had set up a checkpoint on the highway based on information related to narcotics. During the operation, a truck approached the checkpoint at high speed without slowing down and rammed a covered van stationed there.
The truck then lost control, hit Warrant Officer Muhammad Alamgir, who was standing beside the road, and fell into a nearby ditch.
He was critically injured in the accident. The truck driver was also injured.
The two were taken to Feni Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared Alamgir dead at around 1am.
The truck driver is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Alamgir’s parent unit was the 14 Bangladesh Infantry Regiment at Jashore Cantonment.
