A Rohingya man was killed in a shooting allegedly by rivals at a camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, last night (14 May).
The victim, Hasan Ahmed alias Kala Hasan, 45, was a member of one bandit group, shot dead by members of the Rohingya bandit “Saddam group” over a longstanding enmity, Md Kawsar Sikder, commanding officer of the 16th Armed Police Battalion, said today.
According to the APBn, Hasan was previously an active member of the “Zakir bandit group.”
Seven cases – three arms cases, two robbery preparation cases and two abduction cases – are pending against him in court.
Officer Kawsar said members of the Saddam group, armed, entered the H block area of Nayapara Rohingya camp last night. “Acting on a prior enmity, they opened fire, targeting Hasan, who was shot on the right side of his chest and critically wounded.”
“After the incident, Saddam group members fled to the hilly area on the western side of H block,” he said, adding that local Rohingya residents later rescued the injured Hasan and took him to a hospital adjacent to the camp, where the attending physician referred him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex for advanced treatment.
“He died of excessive blood loss on the way to the hospital.”
The officer further said upon receiving the news, a team from Nayapara APBn rushed to the scene, brought the situation under control and informed Teknaf Model Police Station about the matter.
“A police team carried out necessary legal procedures and prepared an inquest report, with the body being handed over to Teknaf police for autopsy. Operations are underway to gather information from the scene, identify those involved and arrest them,” he added.
