The 13th National Parliament today (14 June) formed standing committees on the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman and Bhola-1 lawmaker Andaleeve Rahman Partho was appointed as the chairman of the law ministry committee while BNP lawmaker Mushfiqur Rahman, who represents Brahmanbaria-4, was named chairman of the finance ministry committee.
The committees were formed after Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam Moni placed the proposals at today’s parliamentary sitting presided over by Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal.
The proposals were later approved by voice vote.
Both committees comprise 10 members each, including representatives from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Members of the finance ministry committee are Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Moni (Barguna-2), Mir Shahe Alam (Bogura-2), Dr Md Jalal Uddin (Chandpur-2), Moinul Islam Khan (Manikganj-1), Shahadat Hossain (Lakshmipur-1), Saiful Alam Khan Milon (Dhaka-12) and Syed Joynul Abdin (Dhaka-4) from Jamaat, and Abul Hasnat (Cumilla-4) from the NCP.
The law ministry committee includes Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon (Noakhali-1), Nawshad Zamir (Panchagarh-1), Shakila Farzana from a reserved women’s seat, Manjurul Islam (Dinajpur-1), Hasan Rajib Pradhan (Lalmonirhat-1), Nazibur Rahman Momen (Pabna-1) and Al Faruk Abdul Latif (Nilphamari-2) from Jamaat, and Akhter Hossain (Rangpur-4) from the NCP.
Earlier, on Wednesday, parliament formed the standing committee on the Ministry of Planning.
There are 50 parliamentary and ministry-related standing committees in total.
As of today, eight committees had been formed, alongside two special committees.
