Early in Kanye West’s career, Coodie tagged along to document his journey to becoming a rapper.
It was the year 2001.
Decades later, a mountain of footage became the Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy on Netflix.
However, the documentary featured only a slice of the total footage.
Rather, it was 3,000-plus hours of footage. Now, all of it will head to the director’s website.
According to XXL Magazine, West’s footage in this massive material includes 546 hours of footage.
The large corpus covers hip-hop, fashion, lifestyle, and Chicago from the 1990s onward.
But in 2022, when the documentary was about to be released, Ye and Clarence “Coodie” Simmons fell out.
The pair’s relationship was already strained; to add insult to injury, West insisted on having the final say on the documentary’s edit.
With the hard work of two decades on the documentary, Coodie was not up for it.
“I told Kanye he had to have 100 percent trust in this film … he said he trusted,” the filmmaker said at the time.
“So when I saw that Instagram, I was a bit disappointed,” he shared.
However, at the documentary’s premiere, West appeared to reconcile the friendship and embrace Coodie.
