Irregularities in the “Bir Nibas” project and freedom fighter lists during the previous fascist government will be investigated, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain said today (5 May).
He made the remarks while briefing reporters after discussions on proposals from deputy commissioners (DCs) related to the ministry on the third day of the DC conference.
“There are issues regarding the freedom fighter list. Under the ‘Bir Nibas’ project, around 30,000 houses have already been built, with more ongoing,” he said.
Referring to the previous fascist Awami League government, he said “everyone knows what happened”, alleging that all sectors saw politicisation and corruption.
He said these issues were raised by DCs and addressed during the discussion. “We have responded to their queries and said these irregularities and corruption will be properly investigated,” he added.
He said steps will be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur in future.
The state minister said DCs were also briefed in detail on what has been done and is being done for “July fighters” linked to the 2024 mass uprising. He sought their support to implement these initiatives.
“We have requested their cooperation so that these can be carried out through them,” he said.
At the briefing, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan said the government is working to uphold the Liberation War, describing it as the country’s greatest achievement.
