Confirming the matter, Mugda Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Borhan told The Business Standard that the landlord informed police after noticing a foul smell coming from the residence.
“Police later broke open the door and found the official hanging inside the house. The body could not be brought down until around 11pm because of the strong odour emanating from it,” he said.
The SI further said it was suspected that the official had died two to three days earlier.
According to him, the landlord had last spoken with the official on Eid day and had not had any contact with him since then.
“It is assumed that he died sometime after that,” the officer added.
SI Borhan said police were initially treating the incident as a suspected suicide. “The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination and the police are investigating the matter.”
