Government officials at grade 2 or above can use fully electric vehicles (FEVs) costing up to Tk75 lakh, including registration, VAT and taxes, under government funding, according to a Finance Ministry directive.
The directive, issued on Wednesday, sets price limits and specifications for vehicles for officials of government, autonomous and state-owned bodies and public-sector corporations.
Officials at grade 3 or below will be eligible for FEVs costing up to Tk55 lakh, while the maximum price for electric cars has been set at Tk50 lakh, including registration, VAT and taxes.
Deputy secretaries to additional secretaries and equivalent officials are entitled to government vehicle facilities. Those who do not purchase vehicles through interest-free government loans are provided with vehicles under the facility.
The government made the purchase of EVs mandatory for officials through government funding in the current fiscal year, citing environmental and fuel-saving considerations. It has also reduced import duties and taxes on EVs.
An FEV priced up to Tk75 lakh must have a motor power of at least 200 kilowatts, a battery capacity of at least 55kWh and a minimum range of 430km. It must also have an eight-year battery warranty and DC fast-charging capacity of at least 80kW.
For the Tk55 lakh FEV category, the minimum motor power is 150kW, battery capacity 55kWh and range 400km. The vehicle must also have an eight-year battery warranty and DC fast-charging capacity of at least 80kW.
For the Tk50 lakh electric car category, the minimum motor power is 95kW, battery capacity 50kWh and range 400km. It must also have an eight-year battery warranty and DC fast-charging capacity of at least 80kW.
