State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit today (17 September) urged popular content creators to come forward collectively to help bring about behavioural changes among people to prevent dengue, rather than relying solely on medical treatment.
He called upon them to take up creative initiatives not merely as a professional responsibility but with a genuine sense of social responsibility and passion for saving lives.
The state minister made the call at a special view exchange meeting with leading content creators and social media communicators of the country at the conference room of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry this afternoon, said a press release.
This initiative is part of the nationwide cleanliness and awareness campaign against dengue announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
On Saturday, the prime minister inaugurated the special three-month-long nationwide programme, joined by thousands of young volunteers, at the South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban.
Highlighting the Directorate General of Health Services’ preparedness as part of that national initiative, Dr Muhit said, “The healthcare system is fully prepared to provide treatment for dengue patients. A total of 3,000 doctors are being given refresher training, while adequate supplies of saline are being ensured and beds are being kept ready.”
“However, it is not possible to prevent deaths and infections only by giving treatment. Behavioural change among people is essential for this. You, the content creators, can play a vital role in encouraging people to become aware and take practical steps, such as cleaning their homes. People listen to you attentively,” he added.
The meeting was informed that breaking away from conventional government publicity campaigns, the health ministry seeks the support of the country’s popular digital content creators to bring about positive behavioural changes among people to prevent dengue.
Dr Muhit held detailed discussions on an integrated three-month roadmap for dengue prevention and public health protection.
A specific three-month action plan was finalised at the meeting. The participating creators and agencies were requested to submit their initial ideas and outlines shortly.
The meeting set a target to formally begin airing contents of digital campaign from the first week of October.
