Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 has arrested a female inmate who escaped from Kashimpur Central Women’s Prison in Gazipur earlier this week.
Mosammat Rimpa, 21, was arrested in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area this afternoon (19 July), Md Jannat-ul Farhad, assistant inspector general of the Prison Directorate, confirmed to The Business Standard.
A RAB-2 team arrested Rimpa in Mohammadpur before handing her over to the relevant prison authorities, he added.
According to prison officials, Rimpa escaped from the prison on 16 July after exploiting alleged lapses in supervision by prison matrons.
Following the escape, Kashimpur Central Women’s Prison Superintendent Shirin Akter filed a case with Konabari Police Station in Gazipur on 17 July.
Prison authorities have temporarily suspended three matrons and four female prison guards over alleged negligence in connection with the incident.
According to prison authorities, Rimpa is from the Raipur area of Gangni Upazila in Meherpur.
She was serving a three-month jail sentence at Kashimpur Central Women’s Prison after a mobile court in Dhaka convicted her.
