The International Crimes Tribunal’s investigation agency has submitted a probe report naming former Dhaka University vice-chancellor ASM Maksud Kamal, former Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and six others in a crimes against humanity case over attacks on students during the July 2024 Uprising.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed the matter to The Business Standard today (6 August), saying the tribunal’s investigation agency had submitted the report to the office of the chief prosecutor.
ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said the report is under review and that formal charges will be submitted to the tribunal once the review is complete.
Others named in the report include former ICT judge ABM Nizamul Huq Manik, Dhaka University sociology Professor AKM Jamal Uddin and now banned-Chhatra League’s General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.
According to the prosecution, the investigation agency carried out a prolonged inquiry into the case before submitting its findings to the chief prosecutor’s office. The report is currently under review, after which formal charges will be filed with the tribunal.
