The government has sent former Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Golam Saklayen into compulsory retirement after misconduct allegations against him were found to be proven following a departmental inquiry.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs today (18 June) said Saklayen, currently serving as an additional superintendent of police at Jhenaidah In-Service Training Centre, had established an “unethical close relationship” with actress Porimoni while serving as ADC of the DB’s Gulshan Division.
According to the notification, the matter drew widespread media attention and was deemed to have tarnished the government’s image. A departmental case was initiated against him in February 2023 under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
Following an investigation, the inquiry officer concluded in December 2023 that the misconduct allegations had been substantiated. After reviewing the investigation report, his responses to show-cause notices and other relevant documents, the authorities decided to impose a major penalty.
The Public Service Commission later recommended compulsory retirement as an appropriate punishment. Acting as the appointing authority, the president approved the decision on 17 June this year.
The notification said Saklayen was awarded the major penalty of compulsory retirement under the relevant provisions of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.
