A student of Dhaka University (DU) was injured after falling from the ninth floor of Santosh Bhaban at Jagannath Hall in the early hours today (5 October).
The student, identified as Bidipto Shikto, was rescued and immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Bidipto is a student of the Development Studies department from 2025–26 session.
Jagannath Hall Provost Debashish Pal said, “The student appeared to have jumped from the building due to personal reasons and depression, although the exact circumstances have yet to be established.”
“We have heard that the student jumped due to some personal issues and depression. However, it is too early to say how accurate this information is. We will be able to learn what actually happened once the student has recovered,” he said.
The provost added that the student is currently recovering.
Pallab Chandra Barman, vice-president of the Jagannath Hall Students’ Union, said, “The student landed on a tin roof after falling from the building, which fortunately prevented any serious injury to his head.”
