The Dhaka Deputy Commissioner’s Office is set to launch the “Hello DC” app next week to facilitate citizens from any part of Dhaka district to easily get its services online and make complaints over any public issue.
The initiative was announced by DC and District Magistrate Farida Khanam during a discussion meeting with the Court Reporters’ Unity (CRU) held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in Dhaka today (17 May).
Farida Khanam said the service will remain open from 9am to 1pm, as citizens will be encouraged to record their problems by making a phone call using the app, and actions will be taken accordingly.
According to the DC, the app will also allow users to submit complaints, collect emergency information, receive guidance related to various certificates, access land and administrative information, inquire about social safety net programmes, and directly report local problems.
If the district administration is unable to resolve a complaint received over the phone, the complainant will be informed immediately.
The app will play an important role in bringing various services of the DC Office within easy reach of ordinary people. Currently, people often have to wait a long time and visit multiple offices even for minor government-related tasks.
In many cases, they face harassment due to a lack of necessary information. This technology-based initiative has been taken to reduce such problems. Although various government services were introduced online earlier, not all services were available on a single platform.
The “Hello DC” app may remove that limitation. On one hand, it will increase the speed of service delivery, and on the other, it will ensure transparency and accountability in administration.
This is because citizens’ complaints or applications will directly reach the concerned officials, and their progress can be monitored.
Regarding the launch of the app in Dhaka, DC Farida hoped that the “Hello DC” app would become popular among ordinary people. “The launch of the “Hello DC” app will reduce corruption and the influence of middlemen in administrative services.”
She added that citizens will be able to submit applications themselves and track the status of their applications directly from their mobile phones.
