Chinese investors have expressed interest in constructing a 1,000-bed modern hospital in Sylhet, with a delegation visiting the region to conduct site selection and feasibility assessments for the proposed project.
The visiting investors travelled to Sylhet to evaluate potential locations for the hospital, which is expected to be a large-scale healthcare facility if implemented.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury visited several areas in Companiganj with the Chinese delegation for site selection today (3 June).
During the visit, the delegation inspected several locations, including Bholaganj Sadapathar and the High-Tech Park in Companiganj.
After the inspection, the minister said the process of selecting a site for the proposed 1,000-bed hospital has begun. He said China would invest in the project and discussions are ongoing on initial planning and location selection.
He added that, if implemented, the hospital would bring significant improvements to healthcare services in the region.
Steward Cheung, chairman of Bai Up Investment Limited, who represented the Chinese delegation, said they were satisfied with the initial stage of site inspection and feasibility assessment. He also said efforts would be made to secure necessary financing for the project.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam and other local administration officials were present during the visit.
Earlier last night, the minister held a meeting with the Chinese investors at the Sylhet Circuit House, where discussions on the proposed hospital project and site selection were held.
