Bridge Division Secretary and Bangladesh Bridge Authority Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf today (20 September) inspected the ongoing Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) and drainage works at Abdullahpur intersection and the Tongi U-turn area.
During the visit, he reviewed the overall progress and on-site condition of the ongoing rigid pavement, drainage, road island and related infrastructure works, according to the press release.
A total of 1,350 metres of rigid pavement has already been completed under the project.
The secretary also inspected the quality of the construction work, working conditions at the site and measures taken to keep traffic movement normal during the ongoing construction.
Rouf said the country’s transport sector had undergone significant transformation under the leadership of the current government.
He said the implementation of major projects had been made possible by the prime minister’s specific directives and commitment.
He also credited the minister and state minister of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges with providing leadership and continued guidance for the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority has undertaken the construction of rigid pavement and drains at Abdullahpur intersection and the Tongi U-turn area.
Work on the rigid pavement in the area began in April this year.
In July, progress on the construction of a section of rigid pavement at Abdullahpur intersection was also inspected, with emphasis placed on maintaining the quality of the work and completing construction within the stipulated timeframe.
During today’s inspection, the secretary directed the officials concerned to accelerate the construction work without compromising quality.
He also instructed the authorities concerned to take the necessary steps to complete the project’s drainage and road island construction works by December 2026.
Rouf said Abdullahpur intersection is one of the capital’s key entry and exit points.
He said improving the road infrastructure in the area and completing the ongoing construction works quickly would help make vehicular movement smoother.
The area is also important to the city’s transport network because several major roads and transport infrastructures are connected through Abdullahpur intersection, he added.
Officials and engineers associated with the project, field-level officials and representatives of the contracting firm were present during the inspection.
