Bangladesh and India have discussed introducing an open-sky policy between the two neighbouring countries as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral aviation cooperation.
The issue came up during a meeting between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Indian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at the minister’s office at the Secretariat in Dhaka today (16 September).
The two sides also discussed revising the existing Air Services Agreement between Bangladesh and India and waiving charges for the use of airspace, according to a press release issued by the civil aviation and tourism ministry.
The Indian ambassador expressed his country’s interest in working with Bangladesh to develop its aviation sector.
Trivedi also highlighted the potential use of India’s locally manufactured Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft on Bangladesh’s airstrips.
The minister said Bangladesh would coordinate with India where necessary to strengthen bilateral relations and establish the country as an aviation hub in South Asia.
The meeting also underscored the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
