Attempts to create instability will be dealt with firmly: Mahdi Amin

Prime Minister’s Adviser and Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin has said the government will take firm action against anyone attempting to create instability in the country, regardless of their political identity.

“The political identity of an offender is not being taken into consideration. If anyone tries to create instability anywhere, it will certainly be dealt with firmly,” he said at a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka’s Tejgaon today (30 September), held to brief the media on Prime Minister Tareq Rahman’s recent visit to the United Nations.

Mahdi said the government was responding promptly whenever incidents occurred and that law enforcement agencies had taken swift action in several recent cases.

“Whoever the offender is, their political identity is not being taken into consideration. Whenever an incident occurs, the government is taking action with the utmost sincerity. We have seen the police and law enforcement agencies take steps very quickly,” he said.

Referring to recent incidents, he said 13 people had so far been arrested over an land-grabbing incident in Mohammadpur’s Chand Udyan.

11 people were arrested over an attempt to grab land in Shyamoli Housing in Adabor, he added.

He also referred to the attack, looting and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, saying 13 people had been arrested in connection with the incident. Two pickup vans loaded with looted goods and an excavator had also been recovered, he said.

Seven people have also been arrested over the vandalism of a content creator’s studio in the ECB Chattar area, according to the adviser.

“The government is trying to arrest those responsible as quickly as possible in every case,” Mahdi said.

He said maintaining law and order remained the government’s top priority.

“We have already received this message from the government’s policymakers and relevant stakeholders. The government’s position against any form of instability or criminal activity is clear, and action will be taken as quickly as possible in accordance with the law.”
