State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari said that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) along with other law enforcement agencies, are investigating allegations of corruption and politicisation in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) recruitment during the Awami League government’s tenure.
He made the remarks responding to a written question from Pabna-5 lawmaker Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas during a question-and-answer session on the 15th day of the Parliament’s first session this morning (16 April).
The state minister clarified that over the last 16 years, some 12 officials of the BCS administration cadre were sent into forced retirement, 39 were dismissed from service, and 564 officials were made officers on special duty (OSD).
“Allegations of irregularities and political bias in the BCS recruitments during that period are under investigation. Necessary steps will be taken in line with the law once the probe and recommendations are finalised,” he stated.
Abdul Bari also informed the House that the government has adopted short, medium, and long-term plans to fill vacant posts in the state. Under the initiative, recruitment processes will be completed for 2,879 posts within six months, 4,459 posts within one year, and 3,110 posts over five years.
He shared the information in response to a starred question from Chattogram-13 lawmaker Sarwar Jamal Nizam.
Bari said letters have been sent to relevant ministries and divisions seeking updated data on vacancies and recruitment progress as part of efforts to ensure transparency and accelerate the hiring of five lakh government employees.
According to the Statistics of Public Servants 2024, based on data updated until 31 December 2023, the total number of vacant posts in the country stands at 4,68,220.
