State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque today (18 April) said the government has undertaken a comprehensive long-term plan for the overall development of the country’s youth, expressing optimism that their active participation can bring about a radical positive change in society.
“A long-term plan has been formulated focusing on the holistic development of the youth society, and it has been directly guided by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman,” he said, while addressing an orientation meeting on youth activities held at the headquarters of the Department of Youth Development in the capital.
Highlighting the importance of youth engagement, the state minister called upon all concerned to engage youths in the nation-building efforts, raising above party affiliations and differences in views.
“The development and empowerment of the youths are essential to building a prosperous and developed Bangladesh. Ensuring their contribution can lead to a qualitative change in the country’s social system,” he said.
Aminul said the government prepares its budget with specific targets in mind and urged officials to discharge their responsibilities and run training courses properly.
To ensure administrative transparency and efficiency, he directed district-level officials to maintain punctuality in their offices and closely monitor the attendance of their subordinates.
The state minister also stressed that all development projects must be completed within the stipulated timeframe and allocated budget.
He instructed the authorities to form a monitoring cell promptly to oversee whether training programmes at the upazila and district levels are being implemented properly.
He urged officials to work in the national interest setting aside political differences, and to remain vigilant so that no person can misuse political identity for personal gain.
The meeting was chaired by Director General of the Department of Youth Development Dr Gazi Md Saifuzzaman. Youth and Sports Secretary Md Mahbub-ul-Alam and youth development officials from different districts were also present, said a PID handout.
