A seven-year-old child who went missing while playing outside their home in Dhaka’s Kafrul was rescued from Shariatpur today (5 September), with police arresting a woman in connection with the abduction.
The child went missing from West Shewrapara in Kafrul on Thursday (3 September) afternoon after going out to play. Family members searched several areas but failed to locate the child before filing a general diary (GD) with Kafrul Police Station.
Police later reviewed CCTV footage from the area and found a woman dressed in black forcibly taking the child away by the hand.
Based on the footage and intelligence information, police identified the suspect and filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act following a complaint by the child’s mother.
A team of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted an operation in the Padma Bridge South Police Station area of Shariatpur around 3:30pm today and arrested Juthi Akter, 22, while rescuing the child.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Akter Hossain confirmed the matter.
The child received primary medical treatment after the rescue and was handed over to the parents.
Police are processing the arrested woman’s transfer to court.
