Miscreants vandalised idols at three temples in Bogura’s Mokamtala upazila, prompting concern among the local Hindu community and calls for a proper investigation.
The vandalism took place at the Kanchgari Shiva Temple, Shitala Temple and Mahashashan Temple in the Kanchgari area under Deuli union on Friday (12 June) night, according to local sources and police.
Members of the Hindu community discovered the damage when they went to the temples yesterday (13 June) to offer prayers. They later informed the local administration.
Confirming the incident, Shibganj Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad General Secretary Subir Kumar Dutta said religious programmes are held at the temples on a scheduled Saturday every month.
“Arriving for Saturday’s programme, we saw that the idols at all three temples had been broken. However, it is not yet known who carried out the vandalism. We demand a fair and neutral investigation into the incident,” he said.
Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinuzzaman said police visited the area after receiving information about the vandalism.
“We are treating the matter seriously. No written complaint has been received yet. If a complaint is filed, those involved will be arrested swiftly,” he said.
