Comilla University has declared the posts of six teachers vacant after they failed to rejoin their respective departments following the expiry of their study leave, while some of them had also applied for release.
The decision was taken at the university’s 111th Syndicate meeting on 26 September and later communicated through an office order signed by Registrar (Additional Charge) Mohammad Nurul Karim Chowdhury.
The teachers are Assistant Professor Dipa Rani Das of the Department of Statistics, Assistant Professor Debashish Sen of the Department of Chemistry, Assistant Professor Sumaiya Haque Chandni of the Department of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Md Abdullah of the Department of Marketing, Associate Professor Md Kamal Hossain Chowdhury of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Associate Professor Mehdi Hasan of the Department of Marketing, a former general secretary of the university’s teachers’ association.
According to the office order, the Syndicate decided to declare their substantive posts vacant as they did not return to their respective workplaces after their study leave expired and had applied for release.
The university will continue the process of recovering any outstanding dues from the teachers, where applicable, the order said.
Registrar Mohammad Nurul Karim Chowdhury told The Business Standard that the teachers have not yet been formally released from the university.
“Some teachers did not return after their study leave ended, while some applied for release. Based on this, the Syndicate decided to declare their posts vacant,” he said.
The university is sending letters to the teachers regarding any outstanding payments owed to the institution, he added.
“Once these financial matters are settled, they will be formally released from the university,” the registrar said.
