5 die as car crashes into stationary truck on Faridpur expressway

Five people, including a child, were killed and two others injured after a car crashed into the rear of a stationary truck loaded with gas cylinders on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila early today (2 June).

The accident occurred near the Maligram underpass. Police said the car was travelling from Dhaka to Jashore when it rammed into the parked truck.

Four people, including the car driver, died at the scene. Three others were rescued and taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.

One child, who was critically injured, was later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The child was declared dead upon arrival, raising the death toll to five.

Police said all the deceased and injured are believed to be from Jashore district, but their names and identities had not been confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Among the deceased are two women, two men and a child.

Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Highway Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman said police and members of the Bhanga Fire Service carried out a rescue operation after receiving information about the crash.

“Four bodies and three injured people were recovered from the scene and taken to hospital. Later, a child died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital,” he said.

He said legal procedures were underway and efforts were continuing to contact the victims’ families.

Bhanga Fire Service Station Officer Abu Jafar said firefighters recovered four bodies from the scene and rescued three injured passengers.

“One of the injured later died after being taken to hospital,” he said.
