The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram Port recorded its highest-ever monthly container handling volume in May this year, setting a new operational benchmark since the terminal began operations.
According to a press release issued by the port authority today (2 June), the NCT handled a total of 1,26,496 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the month, surpassing all previous monthly records with an average daily processing rate of 4,081 TEUs.
Of the total volume handled, import containers accounted for 59,851 TEUs, while export containers stood at 66,645 TEUs.
The previous monthly record was set in October 2025, when the terminal handled 125,533 TEUs. The performance in May 2026 exceeded that figure by 963 TEUs.
The terminal is currently being operated by Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) under the supervision of the Chattogram Port Authority’s board.
CDDL assumed operational responsibility for NCT on 7 July 2025. Since then, the terminal has witnessed significant growth in container handling activities, according to the port authority.
The statement said CDDL personnel have been deployed at key operational points, including ship berths, delivery points, appraisal points, C&F sheds, and terminal entry and exit gates, helping accelerate container loading and unloading operations.
The port authority said the improved performance reflects enhanced operational efficiency at the country’s premier seaport and contributes positively to Bangladesh’s foreign trade and overall economy.
The record comes amid ongoing discussions over the future operating model of NCT, with both local and international operators expressing interest in managing container terminal operations at Chattogram Port.
