Police have arrested four people, including the prime accused, in a case filed over an attack, vandalism, looting and gunfire at New Gini Properties, a housing project in the ECB area of the capital, last night (26 September).
The arrested are the case’s prime accused Shahriar, along with Mamun, Aslam and Munna, confirmed Cantonment Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Gias Uddin today (27 September).
Shahriar was arrested from Bailey Road in the capital this afternoon, the OC said.
One person was arrested from the scene last night, while another was arrested this morning, he said, adding that police were continuing their investigation.
New Gini Properties filed the case with Cantonment Police Station this afternoon, naming 13 people and 150-200 unidentified people as accused.
Saiful, brother of the owner of New Gini Properties, filed the case, OC Gias Uddin told The Business Standard.
He said the incident stemmed from a land dispute involving a retired army officer.
On Saturday (26 September), several hundred people attacked New Gini Properties near the ECB area at around 10:30pm, firing shots during the attack.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) arrested Shah Alam Anik, vice-president of the Bhashantek thana unit of the Awami League’s youth wing, Jubo League, today.
DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest, saying Anik was involved in the vandalism of Salman Muqtadir’s studio.
He was arrested from the Cantonment area and taken to the DB office on Minto Road, according to police.
However, it could not be immediately confirmed whether Anik has been shown arrested in the New Gini Properties case.
