Asaduzzaman stresses stronger int’l cooperation to combat transnational crimes

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has stressed the need for stronger international cooperation alongside robust national measures to combat existing and emerging transnational crimes.

He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law, expanding access to justice, enhancing institutional accountability and modernising the criminal justice system under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. 

Md Asaduzzaman made the remarks while addressing the high-level session of the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), an official release said here today.

He is leading the Bangladesh delegation at the function being held at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from September 26 to October 1.

The law minister highlighted Bangladesh’s ongoing judicial reforms and underscored the country’s efforts to combat existing and emerging transnational crimes through robust national measures and international cooperation.

He further said Bangladesh had reaffirmed its commitment to reforming the Code of Criminal Procedure in line with the Abu Dhabi Declaration. The reform would seek to strengthen and expand the effective use of summary trials, expedite case disposal, reduce case backlogs and ensure timely and equitable access to justice, he said.

The Vienna-based United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organises 
the important international congress every five years.

Besides, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, the Bangladesh delegation includes other officials from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
