Three people, including a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee, were killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka this morning (25 July).
The accident occurred around 7:30am in the Islampur area when a passenger bus rammed into two motorcycles from behind, said Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sawgatul Alam.
The deceased were identified as Abas Saha, 25, of Ashulia in Savar; Sujoy Saha, 18, an HSC examinee from Shibalaya in Manikganj; and Syed Naimul Haque, 30, of Savar.
Quoting eyewitnesses, police said a bus had broken down in an active lane of the highway. While vehicles ahead managed to stop, a passenger bus failed to brake in time, crashing into two motorcycles and dragging them along the road.
Abas and Sujoy were taken to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.
Naimul was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar in critical condition and died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) around 12:30pm, said hospital in-charge Md Yusuf.
