The Mainia Youth Forum today (17 April) demanded stronger security measures across all levels of society, alleging a worrying rise in extrajudicial killings and other forms of human rights violations in the country in recent times.
The demand was made at a human chain programme held in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka. Leaders of various social and organisational platforms joined the event and spoke on the occasion, chaired by Mainia Youth Forum President Shahzada Syed Mashuk-e-Moinuddin Al Hasan.
In his remarks, Moinuddin said freedom of expression, personal safety, and social harmony in the country are now under serious threat. He also alleged that attacks, vandalism, looting, and arson targeting people with differing views, as well as religious shrines and institutions such as mazars and khanqahs, constitute clear violations of human rights.
Speakers at the human chain said urgent and effective measures are needed to protect human rights and build a safer society. They also stressed that ensuring the security of religious institutions, including mazars and khanqahs, is the responsibility of the state.
