An undertrial prisoner escaped from Khulna Old District Jail by scaling the prison wall yesterday afternoon (9 July).
The escapee, identified as Iman Majhi, 30, fled the jail at around 4:45pm. He had been in custody since 13 June after being arrested in a theft case filed with Sonadanga Model Police Station.
Jail Superintendent Md Abu Sayem confirmed the incident and said all law enforcement agencies have been asked to help arrest the escaped prisoner.
According to jail authorities, Iman escaped by climbing over the eastern wall, adjacent to the Khulna Bar Association, before fleeing through the Bar Association’s side.
The incident was captured on the prison’s CCTV cameras. He added that security has been tightened in and around the prison following the escape.
Iman is the son of Abdul Majhi, a tenant at Zia’s house in the Bottola Mor area of Sachibunia under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna.
