Two women were robbed outside their residence in Mohammadpur after returning to Dhaka from their village home following the Eid holidays.
The incident took place around 3:45am yesterday (31 May) on Nurjahan Road in Mohammadpur.
Confirming the matter, Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Rakibuzzaman Rakib told The Business Standard that one of the victims had filed a case in connection with the incident.
According to police, the two women arrived in Shyamoli by bus from their hometown in Thakurgaon after the Eid holidays and were robbed after taking an autorickshaw to their residence on Nurjahan Road.
Rakibuzzaman said one of the robbers had been identified and efforts were underway to arrest him.
A video of the incident circulating on social media shows the two women standing outside a house gate beside a battery-run autorickshaw and its driver moments before the robbery.
Suddenly, a man armed with a machete approaches and first threatens the rickshaw driver. He then uses the weapon to intimidate the two women and takes their bags and belongings before handing them to another accomplice.
The two robbers did not stop there. They also searched the victims’ trousers to check whether they were carrying anything in their pockets.
