A brief exchange between Tom Cruise and Prince William stole a bit of the spotlight at the London premiere of Digger on Tuesday night.
As the two greeted each other on the red carpet, Cruise looked Prince William up and down in his tuxedo, complete with a double-breasted jacket and bow tie, and simply said, “Great jacket.”
He then greeted Princess Kate with a kiss on the cheek, as she wore a purple Jenny Packham gown paired with a amethyst necklace once worn by the Queen Mother.
Before the event, Cruise spoke fondly of the couple, calling them lovely people he holds great respect for.
Later, addressing the audience alongside the Digger cast, he thanked the Prince and Princess of Wales for their support of the event and their contributions to the arts and to the country.
The premiere served as this year’s Royal Film Performance, raising funds for the Film and TV Charity, which supports mental health and financial assistance for industry workers.
Cruise and the royal couple share a friendship that dates back several years as Prince William and Princess Kate also attended the 2022 premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
In 2024, Cruise attended a fundraising event for London’s Air Ambulance Charity, of which Prince William is a patron.
