A teenage auto-rickshaw driver was murdered by unidentified assailants in the Uzarpara area under Gacha Police Station in Gazipur Metropolitan early today (12 May), confirmed Police.
The victim was identified as Shuvo, 16, son of Amir Mia from Gobindashree village in Madan upazila of Netrokona district.
The attackers reportedly stole the victim’s auto-rickshaw after the incident.
According to police and local sources, Shuvo had been living with his family in a rented house in the Sharifpur area of Gazipur and earned his livelihood by driving an auto-rickshaw.
Shuvo left his home with his auto-rickshaw on last evening. When he failed to return home late at night, his family began to worry.
Early today, local residents discovered his throat-slit body lying beside a road in the Uzarpara area and informed the police.
Sub-Inspector Md Mamunur Rashid of Gacha Police Station said, “The body was recovered and sent to the Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.”
“Primarily, we suspect this was a premeditated murder linked to the snatching of the vehicle,” he added.
Mamunur Rashid also said, “The process of filing a murder case with Gacha Police Station is currently underway. Police have already launched an operation to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen auto-rickshaw.”
