A teenage boy was killed and at least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups over alleged drug dealing in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria last night (29 May).
The deceased was identified as Raihan, 15, son of Chutun Mia of Syedtula Uttarpara village in the upazila.
According to police and local residents, the incident stemmed from a dispute that began around 10pm when Sajib Mia of the area allegedly gave Tk300 to a local youth to buy yaba tablets. Instead, the youth reportedly spent the money on biscuits.
An altercation broke out between the two, after which several local youths who work against drug activities in the area questioned Sajib about the alleged drug transaction.
Tensions escalated when several people sided with Sajib, leading to a heated argument.
Around 12:30am, members of both groups, armed with locally made weapons, became involved in a clash that continued for nearly an hour. Participants reportedly used torchlights during the nighttime confrontation.
Raihan suffered critical injuries from sharp weapons during the clash. He was taken to Sarail Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Sarail Police Station Monjur Kader Bhuiyan said the clash was triggered by a dispute related to drugs.
“The body of the deceased has been kept at the hospital. Necessary legal action over the incident is underway,” he said.
