The SSC pass rate under the Chattogram Education Board has fallen to 59.48% this year, the lowest in five years, with the Humanities group recording a particularly low pass rate of 38.79%.
Last year, the board recorded a pass rate of 72.7%, meaning the rate has fallen by 13.22 percentage points in a year. The number of students securing GPA-5 has also declined, from 11,843 last year to 9,698 this year.
Controller of Examinations Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury disclosed the results at 10am today (10 August) at the Chattogram Education Board auditorium.
An analysis of the board’s results shows that the Humanities group performed the worst, with only 38.79% of examinees passing. The pass rate was 84.41% in the Science group and 60.12% in Business Studies.

The pass rate among male students was 58.76%, while it was slightly higher at 60.03% among female students.
Results also deteriorated significantly in the Chattogram metropolitan area. The pass rate there fell to 74% this year from 81.03% last year.
Outside the metropolitan area, the pass rate in Chattogram district dropped to 57.13% from 71.29% last year.
The four other districts under the board also recorded significant declines. The pass rate was 57.3% in Cox’s Bazar, 41.17% in Rangamati, 34.99% in Khagrachhari and 47.88% in Bandarban.
School-level results also worsened. This year, all students passed in 21 schools, down from 33 last year. Meanwhile, no student passed from eight schools, compared with one school last year.
The decline is also evident in the board’s results over the past five years. The pass rate was 91.13% in 2021, 87.53% in 2022, 78.29% in 2023, 82.80% in 2024 and 72.07% in 2025. This year, it fell further to 59.48%.
The SSC and equivalent examinations began on 21 April, while the written examinations under the general education boards ended on 20 May.
The results were published today, nearly three weeks later than previously scheduled.
