Shopping malls, markets and shops across the country will be allowed to remain open until 10pm during the Durga Puja festivities, extending the existing closing time by two hours.
According to a letter issued by the Power Division today (5 October), the revised schedule will remain in effect until 22 October.
Under the temporary arrangement, shops, markets and shopping malls can operate from 11am to 10pm during the festival.
The regular operating hours of 11am to 8pm will resume from 23 October, according to the letter.
The Power Division sent the letter to mayors and administrators of all city corporations, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners, as well as the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association and Dhaka Shop Owners Association, requesting them to implement the revised schedule.
The government had earlier reduced the operating hours of shops and markets as part of measures to conserve electricity and improve power management.
The temporary extension comes ahead of Durga Puja, when shopping activity typically increases, particularly for festival-related purchases.
