Severe traffic congestion has spread up to the Khilgaon Flyover on roads leading to the Sayedabad Bus Terminal in the capital.
During a spot visit this afternoon (26 May), severe congestion was observed from the Khilgaon Flyover to the Sayedabad terminal, causing long delays for commuters and passengers heading towards the terminal area.
According to observations on the ground, road cutting and construction work from Mugda to Maniknagar has narrowed the roadway after the roads were not levelled properly following the work.
As a result, the available space for vehicles has significantly decreased.
Traffic congestion was further worsened by a buildup of battery-run autorickshaws along the roads and frequent U-turns by vehicles in the area.
In Mugda, a cattle market set up beside the main road also contributed to the congestion, spreading traffic pressure across the surrounding areas.
From Maniknagar up to the entrance of the Mayor Hanif Flyover, buses were seen parked in front of various bus counters, adding to the traffic gridlock.
However, roads inside other parts of Dhaka city appeared largely empty as Eid-ul-Adha holidays began.
Visits to different areas of the capital found no significant traffic congestion elsewhere.
