Senior journalist Nurul Hasan Khan passes away

Senior journalist and veteran organiser Nurul Hasan Khan has died at the age of around 72.

He breathed his last this afternoon (16 August) while undergoing treatment for cancer at Delta Hospital at Mirpur in Dhaka, his nephew and journalist Masud Karim confirmed to The Business Standard.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter, along with a host of relatives, friends and admirers.

A founding member of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), Nurul Hasan Khan served as the former general secretary of the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) and former joint general secretary of the National Press Club.

ERF President Daulat Akter Mala and General Secretary Abul Kashem expressed deep shock at his death. They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.

Born in Netrokona, Nurul Hasan Khan served as chief reporter of the daily Dinkal and held various positions at different media and other organisations during his long professional career.

According to Masud Karim, his namaz-e-janaza was scheduled to be held after Esha prayers last night at Mirpur-2 Market Mosque in the capital. He was scheduled to be buried at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard in Mirpur.
