The government has appointed senior journalist Md Saidur Rahman as press minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on a one-year contractual basis.
The Ministry of Public Administration announced the appointment in a notification issued today (20 July).
According to the notification, Rahman’s appointment is subject to his severing all professional ties with any business or government, semi-government or private organisation. The terms and conditions of his appointment will be specified in a separate contract.
The notification said the appointment has been made in the public interest.
Rahman is currently the Political and Election Editor of the Daily Ittefaq.
A graduate and postgraduate in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka, he began his journalism career in 2005 as the Dhaka University correspondent for the Daily Dinkal before joining the Daily Ittefaq in 2007.
Over nearly two decades, he has covered national politics, elections and governance, reporting on the parliamentary elections held in 2014, 2018 and 2024.
Rahman also served as a member of the Creative and Arts and Fact-Checking Sub-Committee of the BNP’s central election management committee for the 13th parliamentary election.
