At least 10 robbers broke into a family home in Chattogram’s Fatikchhari upazila, beat family members, tied their hands and mouths, and looted gold jewellery, cash and mobile phones early today (19 September).
The incident took place at around 2:30am at Khorshedul Alam’s home in the Ghoginaghata area of Paindong Union.
According to family members, the robbers broke the lock on the door with hammers before entering the house. They then tied up the family members and held them hostage while searching different rooms.
The robbers took 11.5 bhori of gold jewellery, Tk2.5 lakh cash, three mobile phones and other valuables before fleeing, they said.
Khorshedul Alam has three sons, two of whom live in the Middle East.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Khorshedul Alam said, “As soon as the robbers entered the house, they started beating my wife and my son’s wife. When I tried to stop them, they beat me as well. They then tied up the family members and looted cash, gold jewellery and other valuables.”
His son Zubaidul Islam said the robbers kept the family members hostage for a long time after tying their hands and mouths.
