RAB-7 has arrested an absconding accused of the murder case of Ashfaq Kabir Sajid, an eleventh-grade student of BAF Shaheen College in Chattogram.
The arrested accused, Anik Das, 20, is the second accused named in the First Information Report of the case, according to a press release issued by RAB-7 this morning (26 April).
RAB said he was arrested during a raid in the Sarkarhat area under Anwara Police Station in Chattogram at around 5:30pm on Friday (24 April), acting on confidential information.
Anik Das is the son of Jishu Das of Karaipura village in Anwara upazila.
According to the case statement, Sajid, son of Abul Hashem of Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria upazila, lived in a rented house on DC Road in Chattogram for his studies.
Sajid was talking to his friend Fardin Hasan in front of a tea stall in the Bou Bazar area on the afternoon of 12 April when a group of miscreants held him at knifepoint and tried to abduct him.
To save himself, he later ran into an under-construction building in the Moushumi Residential Area on DC Road and took shelter on the eighth floor.
RAB said the attackers then entered the building after telling the security guard that a thief had entered.
They beat Sajid up and threw him through the empty lift shaft while he was seriously injured.
Police later rescued him and took him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The following day, Sajid’s father filed a murder case with Chawkbazar Police Station.
RAB said the arrested accused had been handed over to Chawkbazar Police Station for further legal action.
