Chattogram district police arrested four people and recovered a shotgun and a Chinese pistol during a special operation in the remote hilly area of Jungle Salimpur today (8 October).
The operation was conducted around 3pm by a special team of the district police, said Md Russel, additional superintendent of police of Chattogram District Police.
He said details about the identities of the arrested individuals and the recovered firearms would be disclosed later.
Police said such operations would continue in the remote hilly areas of Jungle Salimpur to curb criminal activities and recover illegal firearms.
Earlier today, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the government plans to establish a police academy in Jungle Salimpur modelled on the Sardah Police Academy.
He made the remarks after a meeting on infrastructure development in Salimpur at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat.
The minister said the meeting also discussed the overall law-and-order situation in the area.
He said various decisions had been taken to bring government land in the area under proper management.
“A police academy modelled on the Sardah Police Academy will be established there, with land for the academy currently being identified,” Salahuddin told reporters.
