Five people, including prime suspect “Langra” Rubel, have been arrested in connection with the shooting that injured two people in the capital’s Pallabi last week.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi of the DMP Media Wing confirmed the arrests today (12 August).
The shooting took place around 6pm on Road 2 of Millat Camp in Pallabi on 7 August. Two people, including a woman, were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire.
One of the victims, Alamgir, 45, is involved in BNP politics, according to police. The other victim was identified as Josna, 50.
Mohammad Mostak Sarkar, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur division, said Alamgir sustained gunshot wounds to his head and near his waist, while Josna was shot in the leg.
According to police and local sources, the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute over drug dealing and territorial control.
They alleged that several people, including local drug dealers Langra Rubel and Bappa, opened fire on Alamgir with the intention of killing him, during which Josna was also hit.
