Prime Minister Tarique Rahman received a warm reception as he arrived in Sylhet this morning (17 June) to attend the inauguration programmes of the Family Card initiative in Sreemangal and Moulvibazar, where he was welcomed by local politicians, public representatives and government officials.
Confirming the matter, Sylhet District BNP President and Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said members of parliament from different constituencies in Sylhet, including National Parliament Chief Whip GK Gaus, senior leaders of the Sylhet district and metropolitan BNP units, as well as top administrative officials, including the divisional commissioner, police commissioner and deputy commissioner, were present at the airport to welcome the prime minister.
After arriving in Sylhet, the prime minister travelled by road to Sreemangal in Moulvibazar district. During the journey, leaders and activists of the ruling party gathered at various points across Sylhet city to greet him.
A large number of tea garden workers also stood on both sides of the road carrying flowers near the Malnicherra Tea Estate area to welcome the prime minister.
The visit created a festive atmosphere across Sylhet, with BNP leaders and activists from affiliated organisations assembling along roadsides from early morning to greet the prime minister. As his motorcade passed through the city, supporters chanted slogans, while some showered flowers on his vehicle
According to the schedule, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to attend a Family Card distribution programme at Victoria High School ground in Sreemangal at 1pm. He will later participate in another Family Card distribution event in Moulvibazar sadar.
The prime minister is also scheduled to hold a meeting with party leaders at a resort following the programmes.
Meanwhile, extensive preparations have been undertaken in Sreemangal ahead of the prime minister’s visit. Authorities have expedited work related to stage construction, brick surfacing, beautification efforts, installation of security arrangements, and cleaning of roads and important establishments in the town.
