Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today (17 January) urged people to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum scheduled for 12 February to uphold the spirit of a new Bangladesh.
“The people of this country have not been able to vote freely for 15 years. Voting has often been manipulated, with ballots filled overnight. To change this situation, it is necessary to vote ‘Yes’, ” he said at a public awareness meeting on the referendum in Cox’s Bazar.
The meeting was organised by the Cox’s Bazar district administration at the Public Library Hall.
“The July Charter and the new Bangladesh were achieved through the sacrifices of the July martyrs and fighters,” he added.
Adilur, also industries and housing and public works adviser, further said Bangladesh must be free from fascism, discrimination, enforced disappearances and crossfire killings. “Besides, equal rights for all ethnic communities will be ensured.”
After the meeting, the adviser inaugurated polling vehicle activities at the premises of the district administration office.
